Annual Intensive Workshop

Emphasis is placed on personal spiritual discipline and growth through a study of Christian Church teachings and principles as practiced in the making of icons. The Prosopon School is founded by and the principles and methods are under the direction of master iconographer Vladislav Andrejev.

Philadelphia area is one of the longest standing locations for the Prosopon School (www.prosoponschool.org).   Since 1990, when Mr. Andrejev was starting his teaching in the US,  Philadelphia has hosted an annual Intensive class and many other icon painting opportunities and exhibits. Classes are held on a periodic basis in the theory and practice of traditional Byzantine Icon painting in the Russian style using egg tempera and gold leaf on natural gessoed panel   

2018 WORKSHOP SUBJECT:  Motherhood , taught by Dmitri Andrejev

 Beginners will make an icon of a single figure of their choice from this icon St. Anna, Mother of God or Emmanuel No artistic experience is necessary for the icon workshop, all are welcome.

Advanced students will be expected to have the icon drawing transferred, gilding accomplished and lines painted on the icon prior to commencement of class.

Tuition for May  workshop $475.00 (6 days)
Materials fee* for first time students  $160.00    
Materials fee** for continuing students  $12.00  
Workshop shared expenses fee (all students) $95.00 (room rental, teacher housing and transportation, xerox)

*all will be provided, gessoed wood panel, 23K gold leaf, natural hair brushes, mineral pigments, egg tempera, study guides

** continuing students will need to purchase or prepare their own boards at a size of their choosing, have the gilding plus drawing accomplished and bring their own brushes.  Mineral pigments, basic tools and study guides will be provided so no need to relocate your whole studio.

There are several restaurants in close proximity to the church for lunch, there is a kitchen available for those who prefer to bring their own lunch.  Tea will be provided daily. 

For out of town students there are several hotels very close by in Wayne and St. David’s PA and a retreat house Raphaela Center on Coopertown Road in Haverford Pa.,  a 10 minute drive from the church.  Please contact them directly for accommodations

There is a minimum of 10 students needed to hold the workshop.  Please register promptly to hold your place.  Drawings will be provided upon registration.
